Hope to see you on July 5th at the Sunset Tavern – after that we’ll be taking an extended break for the summer while we do some recording.
We enjoyed playing (and attending!) Seagaze Fest 2018. We saw some of our friends’ band perform stellar sets, and we discovered a lot of new bands that we’re now following. You can check out a photo gallery at DKFM.com (a major sponsor of the festival, and a huge supporter of shoegaze and related/adjacent music worldwide), and also on the Seagaze photo page on Facebook.
Coming up we have 3 shows in a short time frame: Friday 6/8 at Substation, Saturday 6/23 at Substation (as part of Earwigfest 2018), and Thursday 7/5 at the Sunset Tavern. We hope to see you at one or more of these shows – we might be debuting some new songs so it’s an exciting time!
What’s REALLY exciting – to us anyway – is that we have dates booked this summer to start recording our third release!
We’re excited to have a slot on this year’s Seagaze Festival – a 4-day series of shows at the LoFi featuring shoegaze, dream pop, post-punk and psych bands. The bulk of these bands are from right here in the PNW, but there are some from points beyond, including one from Italy! We’re playing on the first “official” night, on Thursday 4/26, with New Candys, Dirty Sidewalks and Close Encounter. Get your tickets here!
If you have an interest in knowing a little more about our new EP, Renato Malizia from The Blog That Celebrates Itself was kind enough to ask us to do a track-by-track writeup. Below is a translation of the intro text, run through Google Translate and cleaned up for idiomatic clarity. Click here read our rundown on the tracks.
The Seattle quartet, a favorite of the TBTCI, Guest Directors, came back with their second EP, which knew the world three days ago, and offering the launch, a super lineup that happened on Saturday 31 with no less than Overlake and Black Nite Crash.
But returning to the EP, which goes by the name of “Captured in the Light”, incidentally, perhaps the name may perfectly reflect the quantitative quality of the disc. An absolutely inspirational guitars work, which picks up references in 80’s icons, read: Johnny Marr and Will Sergeant, combined with the experimental quality of Sonic Youth.
“Captured in the Light” has exactly these two focal angles, the melody and the distortion confront each other in the four sound pearls.
The Guest Directors are literally a direct descendant of the guitar bands of the 90’s, and with a plus, it succeeds in absorbing other elements sounding absolutely modern.
With all of this in mind, TBTCI invited two of its creators, Julie D and Gary Thorstensen, to dissect the work in detail, and the result, you read below.

We’re so excited to be hosting New Jersey’s Overlake on their return to the Pacific Northwest! At the end of the month we’ll be doing a “mini-tour” with them and our local friends Black Nite Crash:
Friday, March 30: Seattle at the LoFi (with openers Nestoria)
Saturday, March 31: Portland at the Lombard Pub (with PDX locals Nine:Forty:PM)
Sunday, April 1: Tacoma at The Valley
In other big news – this is the same weekend we’ll be releasing our new EP! We hope to see you at one of these shows, and you can grab one of the limited-edition CD’s while you can!
Here’s your first look at our new EP – “Captured in the Light” has 4 tracks and will be released on March 30th. Copies will be available at our 3 shows that weekend, as well as on Bandcamp along with the digital-only version.
These discs are limited to 50 hand-numbered copies, and showcase some gorgeous, manipulated photography by our drummer Rian.
We’re happy to announce the release of our second 4-song EP, titled “Captured in the Light”, on Friday March 30th. This will align with a weekend of shows in Seattle, Portland and Tacoma. Much more information coming soon!
Since our last post we’ve been working on recording two more songs, for release early next year. Just recently we played a really fun show with the wonderful Overlake. If you missed it be sure to check them out when they come back again (from the East Coast, no less!) at the end of March. Here’s what the show (and most shows) look like from the drummer’s perspective:
Don’t miss our 11/16 show at the LoFi – it’s our last show of the year!
